One Month

Oh my!  I cannot believe one month has already passed.  In some ways it feels like Shane has always been a part of our family and in other ways it feels like he was just born.  We are loving every day we get to be with him and get to know our sweet little man.

Shane is a big fan of momma's milk, as he is now 11 lbs 6 oz and was born four weeks ago at 8 lbs 1 oz!  He loves his big sister Abby G and she takes such great care of him.  If I forget to put a blanket on him when I set him down, I will almost always come back to a neatly placed blanket covering him and she usually adds a toy for his entertainment.  It makes my heart just burst when I see how much she loves him and even more when I see him looking around for his sister when he hears her voice.  I love it, love it, love it, and hope they can always have that bond with each other.

Abby G being Abby G AND bringing momma the wipes for brother's diaper change.

Calming Shane down when he started to fuss.

Fixing his blanket that fell off and "cooking" him dinner.

Early morning snuggles.

Holding brother.

Watching over brother during his "gym time."

When Shane was three days old we had to bring him back into the hospital overnight because his bilirubin levels were getting high.  I have O+ blood and Shane has A-, so my body made anitbodies that attacked his blood cells, leading to higher levels of jaundice in his body than what is seen in an average three day old infant.  He was under the bililights for 8 hours which really helped his body get rid of the extra bilirubin and then we had to stay an additional 8 hours to make sure his levels had stayed down at a safe level without rebounding.  It was hard to have to see him in the hospital because of the memory of what we went through with Abby, but I am so happy it was for something so "mild," plus we were out by the next day!  Seeing pictures from right before we went back in, I can see now how yellow he had gotten:

Shane is also growing in length and is already in size 3 month clothing and has grown past the first carseat shoulder belt setting as well as the carseat's infant inserts!

Three days old and going home.

Three weeks old and he has already outgrown the infant carseat inserts.

Look at the difference three weeks made in Shane's size!

He outgrew his lion changing mat!

They change so quickly!

Shane has started to smile when you smile at him and it is great to see his personality starting to come out as he is hamming it up!

Close up of my boy smiling at his silly mommy as she makes noises.

Abby has not only been a great big sister to Shane but has also been a big help to me by entertaining herself for hours each day while I take care of her brother.  And she does it in true Abby G fashion:

My beautiful Abby Merida.

Senorita Sassy Pants

Building castles for her princesses to play in.

I am still in awe over how it is possible to love TWO people as much as I love Abby and Shane, but it is something I treasure and will forever feel blessed to have been able to do.
