On this day every year since, I have always found myself stopping and reflecting how extremely blessed we are that we get to do commonplace, "small stuff" with Abby like get her some water after we've already sat down to eat; kiss her tears away when she gets a boo-boo; or even break up a squabble between she and Shane.
Today I am thankful for the astute pediatric ER doctor who realized something was very wrong with Abby and called for a transport team to take her via ambulance to a hospital that specialized in working with very young infants (she was only 7 days old) and for an amazingly skilled and intelligent surgeon who was able to preform her surgery swiftly and skillfully.
We have so much to be thankful for every single day, but today especially, I am thankful for my daughter.
Holding my girl for the first time after her surgery.
