Naptime snuggles with his sister Abby G at 6 weeks old
Anyway, needless to say, Shane's first birthday planning and celebrating got put on hold while I recovered. We were actually supposed to go down to my mom and dad's house to see my family for Shane's first birthday and we were going to have a big joint birthday party for him, Rock, and my grandpa, who all celebrate birthdays in January. Although we had to cancel because of my back, we are going to go there in February, so I am excited we will still get a chance to celebrate everyone and spend time with family.

I was feeling remarkably better on Shane's birthday (especially when compared to where I was a week prior) and was able to get dressed and made up for the first time in over a week. It felt good to put on "real" clothes and look normal and to be focusing on Shane versus my back for a change.

Trying to sit up to get his toes at 3 months old
We started with a delicious breakfast made by Rock, watched a "Nihao, Kai-lan" episode (Shane's favorite), played, napped, and read books. Rock took the kids to the library, and we ended the night with eating some delicious pizza, opening presents, and eating cupcakes! Again, while it wasn't what we had planned, it was just perfect for a one year old because he got to do all the things he loves and he was completely satisfied just being with his family.

My happy 4 month old
So much has happened in the year since Shane was born, and yet it feels like it has only been 6 months since we welcomed him into our families. Being Shane's mom has taught me a lot, but most importantly to just slow down. Shane is so content watching life and taking it in versus his sister who hit the ground running and doesn't take a second to slow down in her day. Shane teaches me to relax, take the time to stop and just be, and to enjoy the moment.

I love that stinker smile! 4 months old
I love him more each day I get the privilege to be his mom and am so glad he came to join OUR family.

Opening presents is a serious thing.
And he likes it!

"Rrrrrr!"
The end to a fun day!
