The Results Are In!

WE'RE HAVING A GIRL!!!  Rock and I just got back from the hospital and we haven't stopped smiling since.  It is so fun to know what you are having because it makes everything feel so real!  Her name is Abigail but we are already calling her Abby regularly.  We wanted a name that would be strong and mature for when she is older but that also has a really cute nickname for us to call her (now and when she's older because I guess she'll always be our lil' Abby!).

The results of the poll are hilarious to me because so many people (12) voted for a boy and a measly four people voted for a girl!  Rock and I were definitely in the group of people who thought for sure we were having a boy and we were both so SHOCKED when she pointed out the girl bits on the sonogram!  We both did not have a preference so it was just fun to be surprised.

During the ultrasound Abby would NOT stay still.  When we first got a clear image of her, she was resting with her shins on her forehead!  This must be a favorite position for her because she reverted back to it throughout the whole hour we were there.  Maybe she's a future gymnast because how that is comfortable for her is beyond me!  Anyway, the ultrasound technician and doctor all said that all her organs, bones and overall growth looked perfect and that she was definitely a feisty and stubborn baby.  I had to switch positions on the bed about 10 different times to try and move her around so the tech could get a clear shot of her.

At one point the tech asked me if I had had a sweet breakfast and after thinking for a second I couldn't remember anything particularly sweet so I said no.  She said that Abby was moving around so much and that can sometimes mean that mommy had a lot of sugar.  It was only LATER, as we were walking out of the office, that Rock reminded me of a sugar mishap I had had earlier that morning.  (I honestly forgot about this...I'll chalk it up to pregnancy brain!)

I had an iced coffee that needed a *pinch* more sugar and I erroneously thought I could pour that *pinch* of sugar the coffee needed from the 5 lb bag we have, instead of spending the 5 seconds in would have taken to get a measuring spoon out.  My laziness resulted in me adding about 8-10 tbs of sugar via an epic miscalculation of my pouring skills.  FAIL.  But since I didn't have any more iced coffee and I really wanted it (don't try and tell a pregnant lady she can't have what she wants), I decided I would let most of the sugar settle on the bottom and finish the coffee at the top that was less sweet after being deluded by the ice cubes.

OBVIOUSLY I still had a RUSH of sugar because my poor little baby was tweaking out of control!!!  I felt so bad that as a direct result of my laziness, I made Abby do backflips for an hour.  Lesson learned: EASY ON THE SUGAR, Big Momma!

Abby also seemed to have some otherworldly sense of what measurement the tech was trying to get because she would conveniently be covering, squishing or otherwise obscuring the very thing we were trying to see.  And when the tech went to do the 3D image, we had to repeat it about 10 times because Abby would either jerk her head back really quickly before the image could be taken or she would hide her face with her arm.

OK, that's it for now.  I need to get this post up so everyone can see the results and the images!

Clear shot of her face.

I love how serious she looks!  And her hand looks like a doll's hand!  I love living in a time where we have the technology to see our little ones so early!
