OB Update and Halloween

I had an OB appointment this past Friday and Rock watched Abby so I could go alone and see if that helped my blood pressure.  Sure enough, it did.  My blood pressure wasn't perfect (120/80 or below) but it wasn't bad either at 124/84.  Obviously not having Abby crying or fussing while I get my blood pressure taken is helpful when I am at my appointments.  My BP continues to be normal when I check it at home, so I am just glad that this is something they are monitoring but not something worth worrying over at this point.  The doctor said if my BP stays where it is at (i.e., it doesn't spike or change drastically) she doesn't see any reason why I'd need to be induced, which made this momma super happy because I want to avoid pitocin at all costs.  Contractions before and after pitocin are like night and day and if I don't have to have that devil drug, I definitely don't want it!

My doctor also told me my glucose test came back normal and so did the other tests they ordered (one was HIV and I am not sure about the other).  I asked her if there was any note about me having an anterior placenta (placenta in the front instead of the back where it usually is) from my 20 week anatomy scan because I usually only feel Shane on the sides of my belly (as if he were positioned sideways) and it turns out I do!  It makes sense now why the sensation of Shane moving has been so different from the sensations I had when Abby moved.  I used to be able to see Abby's elbow or foot or head or bum move across my belly and although I can see my belly pop with jabs or kicks, I don't see much definition when Shane moves.  An anterior placenta isn't cause for concern, but it is just worth noting you have it because I guess a lot of people who do have it, don't feel as much movement and are worried something may be wrong with their baby.

Rock got an iPad for going to the conference in Florida and gave it to Abby.  She LOVES it!  (Also, check out Abby's pumpkin collection behind her...she had 7 at last count!)

Alright, now on to Halloween.  Rock had been in Miami at a conference for hackers and had to speak Halloween morning.  He gave his presentation and left immediately from the podium to the airport so that he could be home for trick-or-treating with Miss Abby G.  He made it home about 45 minutes before and was able to eat and get dressed up in his gorilla costume.  When he came down, Abby did not like the "scary monkey" and hid behind me, so Rock took the mask off and Abby was OK with him sans ape face.  Once his mask was off he was just a "silly monkey," and Rock jumped around and made silly sounds to make her laugh and to make sure she was not scared of him.

So sweet!

Abby went as a black princess kitty and loved making kitty sounds like meowing and hissing and she even added in a few growls here and there which may not be accurate, but were cute anyway.  Her costume was super easy to make and super cheap, too!  I just dressed her in black leggings she already had, a black kitty shirt I bought on sale last year in a size 2T ($2.99), and black mary jane shoes she already had.  Next came her tutu which I made using a black crochet head band she already had and two spools of glittery craft tulle--one black and one purple ($3.50/spool), I used a black feather boa as her tail ($2) and then I cut out two cardboard kitty ears that I colored black with a Sharpie and then hot glued to a headband and viola!...a black princess kitty was born!

I dressed up as a witch (kind of) using the same costume I have worn for years.  When I was in Maryland in 2008, I needed a last minute costume for handing out candy so I ran to the PX and the only adult female costume they had that wasn't super-revealing was a plus-sized black, hooded robe.  I brought it home, saftey pinned it, added a red sash and was a witch.  Since then I have used it every year and have just tweaked it a little to make it different--one year I added vampire teeth and was a vampire, one year I added a masquerade mask and was...an enigma.  Anyway, luckily it was a plus size costume because in 2010 and now in 2012 I was still able to wear it while being pregnant.  It is the best $4 costume I have ever bought!

Talking to "Happy Pumptin" as Abby called him.

Pretty sure this was the highlight of Abby's night!  She still talks about meeting Snow White!

After trick-or-treating, we came home and made homemade popcorn and then all curled up on the couch to watch "Hocus Pocus" before bed.  It was such a great night and I am so happy that Abby enjoyed it and that her Daddy was able to make it home to experience it with us, too!

So serious

My mom is coming this upcoming Saturday (11/10) so she can hang out with us and be here for Abby's 2nd birthday (11/15) and luckily also my baby shower (on 11/17).  My sister-in-law Frances and my mother-in-law are hosting a baby shower for Shane in Houston for both sides of Rock's family.  It is awesome that not only will all his family be there, but that my mom will get to be there, too!  I am very excited to see everyone and to celebrate Shane with them.

Abby and I have MOPS tomorrow and my fingers are crossed that this will be a positive experience for Abby.  She was playing with a few fellow MOPPETT kiddos we have met at the park, so let's hope seeing them tomorrow morning helps calm her down.

See you back here on Friday!
