Update-izzle

So, last Monday I got a call from my doctor's office that my 1-hour glucose tolerance test came back "borderline" (i.e., any value over 140...mine was 150) so I would have to go back to the doctor's office and do a 3-hour GTT to rule out gestational diabetes.  In case you are wondering, the 3-hour GTT isn't fun!  First, you have to fast for 12 hours, which isn't really hard if you plan your test like I did at 7:30 AM the next day so that you can knock it out right away.  When you get there, they take a blood sample for your fasting glucose levels and then make you drink this awful, AWFUL drink with 100g of sugar in it within a 3 minute time span.  It was SO sweet it almost had a burning sensation to it, which I can only imagine was my taste buds being lacquered and drowned in sugar.  Than you sit and wait an hour because you can't even stand; you just have to sit there as your body goes into sugar shock.  Then they take your 1-hour blood draw and send you out and allow you to go to your car or whatever until the 2-hour draw.  At this point your mouth is so dry from having the sugar drink and nothing else, but you can't even wet your mouth!  I brought my Kindle and my portable DVD player that Mama J gave Rock and me so that I had something to do for those 3+hours I was there.  That really helped pass the time, and I won't even lie...I thought about just leaving more than a few times!

When it is all done, you leave the office feeling absolutely dehydrated and a little like a heroin addict since your arms have been poked so many times.  When I got home, I had a really bad experience.  It felt like my body was going haywire.  I started to sweat profusely (so much so that I had to take my shirt off and walk around in my camisole) and I got dizzy and light-headed.  It felt like the king of all sugar crashes, so I made a high-protein meal of eggs and soy sausages and ate it right away along with a big glass of OJ.  I started to feel better after that but was out for the count the rest of the day.  It just felt like I got ran over by a Mack truck and I had zero energy.

WELL...it turns out that the 3-hour GTT showed that not only do I not have gestational diabetes, but that I am actually hypoglycemic (low blood sugar) which is the exact opposite of GD!  That's why I felt so nasty after the test.  So the nurse just advised me to always have a healthy snack with me so that if I ever felt jittery or light-headed I could get my glucose up.

Other than that, I feel really good and I can tell Abby is starting to run out of room in her little kingdom because her kicks are a lot more frequent and definitely more forceful.  I think I should invent an in-utero Krav Maga punch/kicking mat for her since she's so good at it!  She also likes to creep her daddy out by doing somersaults that make Mommy's belly look like an alien is trying to come out! :)

I am about to head off to water aerobics.  I am probably the only person there under the age of 40, BUT it is a really great aerobic exercise and strength training (weights under water are no joke) with none of the impact of regular aerobics (sigh of relief from the hips!).

As I was leaving my room, I walked by the mirror and saw the belly and wanted to share the moment with you all, so enjoy!

Clearly my little girl likes to eat!

Here's a small little comparison between Week 6 and Week 29 pictures!

Abby says, "PEACE!"

  1. Thanks for sending me the link! I'm glad that you don't have GD, that would really suck!

I was lucky and passed the 1 hr glucose test, so I didn't have to go back for the 3 hr. The 1 hr was bad enough, I couldn't imagine how bad the 3 hr one was!

  2. Hey Sam!
You are so tiny in that 6 week picture, and you still look great!

  3. Thanks Jamie! You are so sweet! I love having you around...you're great for boosting egos! ;)

I think you look pretty darn amazing yourself and hope I can be as tiny as you are when 39 weeks rolls around!
