Abby's new friend, Mr. Monkey...Grandma Stevens spoils her so much!
G with her Grandma Stevens
I also watched my friend's two sons for a little bit while she ran out to take care of some business. While we were there, Abby found the boys' box of hats and she tore through it until she came upon a cowboy hat. Her pink cowboy boots must have gotten her in a Texas frame of mind because right when she came to the cowboy hat it went immediately on her head and stayed there for the duration of our playtime!
I went to my real first OB appointment yesterday and I really liked the midwife I saw. She was very encouraging of me asking any and all questions I had; she is against any unnecessary interventions or augmentations of pregnancy or birth; she is very pro-breastfeeding and congratulated me heartily on still breastfeeding Abby at 19 months; and she had a good sense of humor! Abby was a dream at the appointment and I was so thankful for that because toddler meltdowns are never fun, especially when you have to do something that is scheduled. The midwife told me since I was only about 9 weeks along there was only a 5% chance we'd hear a heartbeat on the handheld fetal doppler, but asked if I wanted to try it anyway and I said yes. We listened for about 5 minutes but to no avail. I told her I completely understand not being able to find the heartbeat and that I wasn't worried in the least, especially because I have my dating ultrasound this Saturday! Oh! She also told me that she was going to send me to see a fetal medicine specialist for a more in depth ultrasound around 18-20 weeks to take a look at BS2's intestines to check for malrotation. This helps put my mind at ease so much because if they should find something (and I pray they do not), we will know they need to fix it as soon as possible and we can avoid an emergency situation like the one we had with Abby.
Abby and I went to the Summer Movie Clubhouse movie today at our local theater. They were playing "Happy Feet 2" and it was only $1/ticket. They also had a snack pack deal where you got a small popcorn, cinnamon teddy grahams and a kids drink for $5. So for less than the price of one regular ticket, Abby and I had a fun afternoon. I honestly didn't expect her to last the whole movie, and she didn't! She lasted about 1/4 of the way and then started to get antsy and want to climb up and down the stairs, so we left. I was going to get a picture of her in her chair eating popcorn before the movie started but she leaned back right when I went to take the picture and the popcorn went flying EVERYWHERE. Hahaha TODDLERS! We still had fun though and am so glad the movie theater offers this deal because it is a super cheap and fun way to spend a hot summer afternoon.
We just got DuneCraft Science Fun Kit with polymer water beads, jewels, gel and slime. I grew the water beads over night and Abby has loved playing with them so far. She loves picking them up individually as well as running her fingers through them. Admittedly, even as a 27 year old adult, they are very fun to play with...I can't wait to grow the other items in the kit as well! I made a makeshift light table for her by placing my crafting light under our table with parchment paper over it to diffuse some of the light. The beads really glow with light under them and Abby loved looking at how different they looked with light passing through. It is a fun project and I'd definitely recommend it!
I will see you all back here on Saturday for *hopefully* ultrasound pictures!
