Ultrasound Results

Rock and I just got back from the hospital after having our ultrasound to check how Abby is growing.  It turns out that all her measurements are on track and they are estimating her weight at exactly 7 lbs.  I am taking the weight estimate with a grain of salt though for two reasons: a) her head is SUPER low in my pelvis and they had a hard time getting the ultrasounds low enough to capture her measurements; and b) several of my friends that go to the same hospital were told estimates of weight that were both nearly one whole pound UNDER the actual birth weight!

They did find that the placenta was calcifying at a rate that would be seen in a post-term babies (40+ weeks).  All placentas start to calcify at the end of pregnancy as a way to shut off that function as the baby is preparing to be born, it's just mine is doing this at +1.5 week rate.  They aren't too concerned because they could see that the blood flow to her was not restricted and they know she is growing.  They want me to come in for a nonstress test on Monday and Thursday of next week just to make sure that Abby is still getting the nutrients she needs and is basically OK.  If she hasn't come naturally by Friday, however, they are going to have us come in on Saturday for a scheduled induction.  They just don't want to risk the placenta not delivering all the nutrients and/or oxygen Abby needs and since it's her due date (November 13th), she will be completely ready to come out at that point.   Sooooo, by sometime next weekend, Rock and I will be PARENTS!  AH!  LOL!

I am happy to find out that she is OK on her measurements and growth and of course I hope that in the week span before the scheduled induction Abby continues to be healthy, but I definitely am also happy that we have some type of timeline.  I realize she could still come at any moment, but knowing that if she isn't here by Friday, we'll see our little mamasita by next weekend is such a comforting feeling!

Anyway, I just wanted to let ya'll know the news and I'll continue to keep everyone updated as much as possible in the next week.

  1. Yay! I'm glad that everything was okay! Isn't it nice to know and "end" date? The same thing happened with AJ, it was nice to have an idea of when she would be here!

  2. It IS nice to know since the not knowing the arrival date is the hardest part of the end of pregnancy. I just want to be as prepared as possible because when I am prepared, I am more confident. I am sure you can understand!

I almost feel like she'll come before the date but only to spite the doctors. She's pretty feisty and I wouldn't put that past her, LOL! But again, I am just happy to know that I will be holding my baby girl some time next weekend!

Thanks for following the blog and also all your encouraging comments, Beth! You're awesome!
