Week "38" and My Big Boy

Here are my pictures from today at Week 38 0 Days:

Week 38 pregnant with Shane 2013

Week 38 pregnant with Abby 2010

OK, so I had an OB appointment and growth ultrasound (u/s) on Wednesday.  At the OB appointment, the midwife said everything looked good with Shane's heartbeat but that my fundal height was measuring at 35 weeks instead of almost 38 weeks.  I told her that the same thing happened with Abby and that is why we had the growth ultrasound that found the placental calcification that led to her induction (and we also found out Abby was measuring completely fine).  I also told her that I am almost 5'11" and a large majority of my height is in my torso so I think my kids just have a lot of extra room to flop around in there.  She said she wasn't too concerned since I had the growth ultrasound that afternoon and sent me on my way.

Here is an example of how long my torso is...this is Rock and me sitting next to each other and although he is bending over to eat, you can see how I am taller than him when we are seated.

And here are two pictures of us standing next to each other, where you can obviously see he is taller than me when we stand.  See?  I really do have the world's longest torso!

Well, I go to the growth u/s and the tech starts taking measurements and after a few she says, "Ummm, how big was your first child?"  I told her 8 lbs and she just said, "Hmm, I see."  Then I asked why, slightly concerned, and she said she asked because Shane was "a very BIG baby!"  I just started laughing because it is crazy how via fundal height he was running almost a month behind but based on the u/s measurements he is in the 90th percentile!  Yes, 90th percentile!

I was watching the tech take all the measurements on the screen and when she'd measure a certain part, an estimated age would pop up and each one was saying 39 to 40 weeks.  And this wasn't the gestational age (which is displayed in the upper left hand corner of the screen), this was the developmental age.  I have thought he was about a week ahead of the due date they gave me at the dating ultrasound from the very beginning and his measurements support that, so I think we should be seeing Shane within the next week or so.

If you take into consideration that Shane is probably more like almost 39 weeks instead of 38, I bet you he wouldn't be in the 90th percentile because his weight is being estimated at 7 lbs 14 oz right now.  Now from personal experience I know that the size estimate is just that...an estimate.  They said Abby was 7 lbs and she came out at 8 lbs, so I am not expecting anything, but I definitely don't think he is going to be a huge baby like 10 lbs+ or anything.

The tech was able to get some cute pictures of Shane, although the photoshoot was cut short because Shane brought both hands and arms in front of his face.  Here are the images we got:

The first image Shane was just pulling back his hands for us to see his face; the second image was him sucking on his bottom lip; and the third image is a side profile of him sucking on his hand giving us the "thumbs-up" sign.  Love that little man!

We are continuing to get things as ready as we can for Shane's arrival around the house and I went to a hospital tour yesterday and got oriented to the Labor and Delivery area as well as the Recovery area.  The delivery rooms were just built (I think she said about 18 months ago) and are very nice and HUGE.  They have lights you can dim, a thermometer you can adjust, tons of room to labor in different locations and a very nice-sized bathroom/shower area.  The recovery rooms aren't awful, but they are definitely nothing to write home about, and they are very small...and some are even double rooms.  I have heard it is very rare to have to share a room with someone else, so I am just hoping that that doesn't happen because I can't imagine having another family a curtain away while I am trying to bond with my family and get to know my son.

And last but not least, what would a blog post about the Stevens Family be without some infamous Abby G photos:

Princess Warrior

This is how she dressed up to brush her teeth.  You never know when someone will take a picture of you, so you need to be ready!

"Prissmas" isn't over for this little rock star!

I will keep everyone as updated about Shane's arrival as I can.  Don't forget to vote on the side of the page about when you think Shane will get here!
